Baron Davis and Young Hollywood

The Warriors may be out of the playoffs, but Baron Davis is still making waves in this commercial.

In this spoof of the NBA's There Can only be One campaign, Boom Dizzle and Adam Sandler promote the new movie, "You Don't Mess with the Zohan," which premieres June 6.

I'm assuming Baron gets the nod in this TV spot thanks to this little episode on FRAMED with Emmanuelle Chriqui:

All these Hollywood-related appearances by the Bearded One makes me wonder whether he's focused on wining games for the Warriors, or furthering his budding career as a movie producer.

There were already rumblings in the Golden State community about how Davis' surprise birthday bash last March led to his infamous benching in the most important game of the season for the Warriors.

In this CoCo Times article, Gary Peterson echoes my sentiments exactly about mixing the Hollywood lifestyle with the uber-competitive nature of an NBA season:

Then there's this: Davis celebrated his 29th birthday Sunday night. One report out of Phoenix suggested the celebration may have contributed to his miserable first half against the Suns, and Nelson's decision to bench him. Though Davis had no comment after the game, Nelson did: "I gave Baron a much-needed rest in the second half," he said. Hmmmmm.

Now it's true Davis appears worn down by the interminable grind of the NBA's regular season. So maybe Nelson meant that. But it also is true that Davis enjoys his birthdays.

In March, after an overtime loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles, Davis was the guest of honor at a surprise birthday party thrown for him at the Sofitel Hotel in West Hollywood. Guests included Jessica Alba, Vanessa Williams, Reggie Bush, Penny Marshall, Derek Fisher and Louis Gossett, Jr.

Last spring, after a home victory over Minnesota, Davis threw a birthday bash at Mezzanine in San Francisco. It was headlined and MC'd by Mos Def, and attended by Davis' Warriors teammates. Double hmmmmm.

What does all this Baron Davis Hollywood Witch Hunt mean? Not much, exactly.

Unless you figure with his impending contract extension looming -- and with Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins due for longer, heftier contracts -- the Warriors have to ask themselves: Can there "Only be One" when it comes to who to choose for doling out a long-term contract? Triple hmmmm.
