What with the recent vitriol being spewed by the local media and Giants fan base, I really don't have much to add to this overdue move by the home team.
I will point you to this super-cool Web program devised by the folks at Caspio.
You just enter your salary and the calculator spits out a table that will make you puke worse than seeing Barry Zito pitch. Ugh.
NOTE: Here is a link to where the program was originally launched, in case the Caspio site isn't working.

I must say, however, that this demotion is about three losses too late. The Giants shouldn't have given Zito six starts to realize how bad he was struggling.
You remove his 0-6 start, and San Francisco is a very respectable 11-9 through games played April 28. That would rank them second in the weak (so far) NL West Division.
The best-case scenario: The Z man finds whatever it is he's been missing, and reverts to a respectable starter. Notice how I didn't mention "Cy Young" form.
We're way passed that. Oh how I've been relegated to lower expectations with No. 75.
Is there even a worst-case scenario? I guess we could come up with 126 million answers to that one.
